Polly Bergen was an American singer, actress, writer, and entrepreneur. She is remembered for playing the famous torch singer Helen Morgan in an episode titled ‘The Helen Morgan Story’ in ‘CBS’ network’s anthology drama series ‘Playhouse 90.’ She won the ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie’ for portraying Helen Morgan. She received a nomination at the ‘Golden Globe Award’ for playing Lorna Melford in the 1963 Hall Bartlett-directed drama film ‘The Caretakers.’ In 2001, she received a nomination for the prestigious ‘Tony Award’ for playing Carlotta Campion in a Broadway musical titled ‘Follies.’ As a singer, Bergen has released many albums including ‘Bergen Sings Morgan’ which peaked at number 10 in ‘Billboard 200.’ She even wrote three best-selling books on fashion and owned shoe and jewelry lines among other businesses.
