Norman Lloyd is an American actor, director, and producer. He has worked in theater, radio, TV, and films for over nine decades. Born in New Jersey and raised in New York, he began performing at the age of 9. He left his university studies during the depression era and joined theater groups. Making his ‘Broadway’ debut with ‘Noah,’ he worked in various socially relevant plays. He began his film journey with Hitchcock’s ‘Saboteur’ and turned gradually towards direction, along with acting. Over the long span of his career, he has worked with some legendary names, including Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, and Orson Welles. During the ‘Hollywood Blacklisting’ time, Hitchcock signed him as director and associate producer of his TV series ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’ and for over 2 decades Lloyd produced and directed a number of TV series. His role as ‘Dr. Auschlander’ in the series ‘St. Elsewhere’ [1982-1988] earned him a lot of accolades. He has authored several books, including biographical books. Lloyd was married to actor Peggy Craven for 75 years till her death in 2011.
