Katherine Marie Helmond was an American actress and director, working in films, TV and theatres. She started her career in the mid-50s in the ever thriving New York theatre scene and became part of some high profile theatrical productions, such as ‘As You Like it’ and ‘The Great God Brown’. She started her television career with a single episode role in the series, ‘Car 54, Where Are You?’In 1971, she finally made her highly awaited film debut with the movie ‘Believe in Me’, in which her role was limited to just a couple of scenes. Doing films guaranteed her some good money and hence, she stuck to small roles in the years to come, and her big career breakthrough came in the year 1984 with the series, ‘Who’s the Boss?’ The series became popular and her character Mona became a pop culture icon. She also earned rave reviews for a particular episode, which she directed. Her glorious acting career furthered with some acclaimed performances in films like ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ and in the sitcom, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’.
