Beto O’Rourke

Description: (Former Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 16th District (2013 - 2019))

Beto O’Rourke is an American politician and businessman. He is the current U.S. Representative for the Texas 16 district and has held the position since 2013. Before entering politics, Beto was a musician for a punk band and held several other odd jobs in New York. He decided that his calling lay in improving the community’s economy and started Stanton Street, a service-based company. At the same time, he actively worked as a volunteer for several congressmen and helped them across their campaigns. He was inspired during this time to enter the public arena and make a tangible change for his community. He first ran for the City Council in 2005 and succeeded; he managed to get re-elected twice and served the El Paso City Council until June 2011. Next, he was elected into the House of Representatives. He continued to actively involve himself in economic developments for El Paso. He became a bigger figure in the political sphere after he decided to run for the 2018 Senate elections. Despite losing marginally, his enthusiastic campaign and thorough groundwork earned him public favor and love. His growing popularity has rubbed off speculations that a presidential run in 2020 US election might be on the cards for Beto O’Rourke.
