Harry Morgan was an American actor, best remembered for playing the role of Colonel Sherman T. Potter in the war comedy series ‘M*A*S*H’. He appeared in more than 100 films and television shows during his six-decade long career. He was born in Detroit and raised in Michigan, where he excelled in debates as a high school student. He enrolled in the ‘University of Chicago’ to study law, but dropped out later to join a theatre group in New York City. He started doing plays in the late 1930s and made his film debut in 1942 in ‘To the Shores of Tripoli’. Throughout the 1940s, he consistently appeared in three to four films a year, playing mostly supporting characters. The first breakthrough of his career came in 1954 when he was roped in to play a significant role in the James Stewart-starrer biographical film ‘The Glenn Miller Story’. In the late 1960s, Harry was cast as one of the leading characters in the film, radio and television franchise ‘Dragnet’. It became one of his most successful roles. The 1960s onwards, he became a bit more active on television and started doing less and less film roles. In the latter part of his career, he appeared in films, such as ‘The Incident’ and ‘Family Plan’.
