Gordon Jump was a noted American actor who regaled audience with his memorable performances in several TV shows. From his early childhood, he dreamt of becoming an actor. After graduation, he began his career at radio and television stations, first in Manhattan and then in Topeka and finally in Dayton. At the age of 30, he moved to Los Angeles, where he joined a theatre run by Nathan and Ruth Hale, developing his acting skill with them. Later, he began to do commercials and also enacted small roles in number of films and television productions. At the age of forty-six, he became a household name with the role of Arthur Carlson in the TV series ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’. His other well-known roles include that of Mr. Horton in ‘Different Strokes’ and of Chief of Police Tinkler in the sitcom ‘Soap’. He also appeared in more than hundred commercials and became well-known for playing the ‘Maytag Repairman’ in commercials for Maytag appliances.
