Peter Falk was an American actor and comedian, best known for playing the titular role in the long-running American series ‘Columbo.’ Peter was born into a middle-class Jewish family of New York City. Due to an eye ailment, his right eye was surgically removed. He had to wear an artificial eye for the rest of his life. Growing up as a sports enthusiast, Peter also developed an interest in acting. He began performing in stage plays when he was 12 years old. His first play was ‘The Pirates of Penzance.’ Following his high-school graduation, he joined ‘Hamilton College.’ He then joined the ‘United States Merchant Marine.’ He later began doing theater and earned a name for himself in the New York City theater scene. Peter made his on-screen debut in 1958, with the series ‘Kraft Suspense Theatre.’ He got his breakthrough acting project in 1968, when he was signed to play the lead role of ‘Lt. Columbo’ in the series ‘Columbo.’ The series became a massive success and earned Peter four ‘Primetime Emmy’ awards and one ‘Golden Globe’ award. Following this, he appeared in many successful films, such as ‘The Cheap Detective’ and ‘Wings of Desire.’
