Steve Winwood is a Grammy Award winning English musician best known for his album ‘Back in the High Life’. He is primary a vocalist and a keyboardist, and also plays other instruments, such as drums and acoustic and electric guitars. Born in Handsworth, Birmingham, he began playing the piano from the age of four. He decided to pursue a career in music after he completed his schooling and studied at the Birmingham and Midland Institute of Music. However, he did not complete his course. He began his career as one of the important members of ‘The Spencer Davis Group’. He later left the band and joined the group ‘Traffic’, before eventually working for the groups ‘Blind Faith’ and ‘Go’. He has released several solo albums as well. His most successful solo albums include ‘Talking Back to the Night’ and ‘Back in the High Life’. The latter won him two Grammy awards. The album was also a commercial success, peaking at the 3rd position on the US Billboard 200 and at the 8thposition on the UK Albums Chart. Counted amongst the best musicians of the contemporary era, Winwood is the recipient of several awards and accolades.
