Najma Heptulla is an Indian politician who serves as the current governor of the Indian state of Manipur and the chancellor of 'Jamia Millia Islamia.' She stepped into the political scene as a member of the 'Indian National Congress' party in 1980 and quickly rose to significant positions. She also served as a 'Rajya Sabha' member for three different states: Maharashtra (1980–2004), Rajasthan (2004–2010), and Madhya Pradesh (2012–2016). She was also the deputy chairman of the ‘Rajya Sabha’ twice. Her association with the 'Indian National Congress' and its leadership suffered later, and she left the party to join the ‘BJP.’ Heptulla instantly turned into a significant figure of the party and eventually became the vice-president of the ‘BJP.’ Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's cabinet witnessed her holding the ministry of minority affairs. She has been involved in a number of controversies. She has written on several sensitive issues such as human social security, sustainable development, environment preservation, women empowerment, and India–West Asia relations.
