Charlayne Woodard is an American playwright and actress. She began her career with the musical ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’, and went on to act in television and film projects as well. Besides her work in stage productions and TV series, she is also known for her poignant performances in films, such as ‘The Million Dollar Hotel’, Unbreakable’, and more recently ‘Glass’. Woodard was born in Albany, New York, where she also grew up. She learnt acting at the Goodman School of Drama. She made her acting debut in the musical ‘Ain’t Misbehaving’, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award in the ‘Best Featured Actress’ category. She made her onscreen debut in the TV film ‘Cindy,’ playing the titular role. In 1982, she made her film debut in ‘Hard Feelings’, for which she was nominated for a Genie Award. As a playwright, she has written four plays, including ‘Pretty Fire’ and ‘Neat.’
