Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton

Description: (American Socialite, Philanthropist and Co-Founder of the Private Orphanage ‘Graham Windham’)

Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton was the wife of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. Born in a wealthy and illustrious family, Elizabeth had a comfortable and secure childhood. Despite the fact that the ‘French and Indian War’ was fought near her childhood home, she was hardly affected by the unrest created by the war. She also had the opportunity to witness the ‘American War of Independence’ and the birth of the United States of America. As her husband was one of the closest aides of the first president of the United States, she witnessed the formation of a new nation from close quarters. An outgoing socialite and social worker, Elizabeth raised funds for a number of social causes. She was one of the founding members and deputy director of New York City’s first private orphanage.
