Description: (American Football Coach)

Ara Parseghian was an American football player and coach, best known for coaching the ‘University of Notre Dame’ team to the national championships twice. Born to an Armenian father and a French mother, in Ohio, Ara turned out to be an extremely athletic kid. He was one of the “tough kids” in school and always got into fights. He lived in Akron, where a lot of Armenian people lived. He began playing football in the junior year of high school and later joined the ‘University of Akron.’ After graduating university, he joined the ‘U.S. Navy.’ In 1948, he played professional football for the ‘Cleveland Browns’ for 2 years. However, a hip injury cut his football career short. In 1951, he joined the ‘Ohio State University’ as the head coach. He later coached the teams of ‘Northwestern University’ and the ‘University of Notre Dame.’ ‘Notre Dame’s performance had not been up to the mark for a few seasons before Ara joined them. Following his inclusion as the team’s coach in 1964, their performance improved quickly. Ara retired from coaching in 1974 and began a broadcasting career. In 1980, he was inducted into the ‘College Football Hall of Fame,’ for his contribution as a coach.
