Chuck Schumer is an American politician who assumed office as the Senate Majority Leader in 2021. Prior to this, the Senate Democratic Caucus elected him to serve as the Senate Minority Leader from 2017 to 2021. He is the first New Yorker and also the first Jewish person to hold the position of a Senate leader. He was first selected to the U.S. Senate in 1998 and since then has been victorious in every successive senatorial election, i.e., in 2004, 2010 and 2016. After being first elected to the Senate, he has visited each of New York’s 62 counties every year, a promise he made in the first year itself. Earlier, despite pursuing law studies from Harvard Law School, Chuck Schumer did not take it up as a profession and began his career in politics by getting elected to the New York State Assembly where he served three terms from 1975 to 1980. With this election, he became the youngest assembly member since Theodore Roosevelt. Thereafter, he successfully ran for the US House of Representatives where he served from 1981 to 1999, representing the 16th congressional district (1981–83), the 10th district (1983–93) and finally the 9th district (1993–99). Chuck Schumer is known for his focus on the issues related to middle class people. He is also known as one of the best fundraisers in the Senate.
