Susan Sarandon is one of Hollywood’s most respected actresses, with a career spanning over four decades. The critically acclaimed star has appeared in films such as Bull Durham, Thelma & Louise, and Dead Man Walking. Given her prolific acting career, striking good looks, and undeniable talent, it is surprising that she never initially considered acting as a career. She had accompanied her then-husband, Chris Sarandon, to a casting call for the film Joe and decided to audition. While Chris did not get a part, Susan was offered a major role, marking her Hollywood debut. Joe was both a critical and commercial success, leading her to pursue acting as a full-time career. She also worked in television, appearing in soap operas such as A World Apart and Search for Tomorrow. By the 1970s, she had established herself as a major film actress, earning widespread recognition. She received her first Academy Award nomination for Atlantic City and later won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Dead Man Walking.
Beyond acting, Sarandon is a well-known activist and has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She is also a vocal supporter of progressive and left-liberal political causes.
