Jawed Karim is a German-American internet entrepreneur, technologist and co-founder of the popular American video-sharing website, YouTube, which presently operates as a subsidiary of Google. Karim was an early employee of PayPal and co-founded YouTube with Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. He was also the first person to upload a video on YouTube that was titled ‘Me at the zoo.’ The nineteen-second video that featured Karim at the San Diego Zoo has garnered over 54.6 million views as of September 11, 2018. While working at PayPal, Karim designed several core components, which included its real-time anti-internet fraud system. After YouTube was introduced, Karim became an informal adviser of the site instead of an employee and turned his focus on further education while taking a comparatively lower share in the company than other co-founders. YouTube was later acquired by Google and Karim received 137,443 shares of the stock. His other endeavours include launching Youniversity Ventures, a venture fund with Kevin Hartz and Keith Rabois and investing in Airbnb, Inc.
