Gabriella Wilson, better known by her stage name H.E.R., is an American singer and songwriter from California, currently signed to RCA Records. Early in her career, she kept her identity hidden, which added an air of mystery and intrigue to her persona. Born and raised in California, H.E.R. has been involved in music since childhood. She made her first major appearance on the Today Show at the age of 12, where she played piano and performed a cover of an Alicia Keys song. At 14, she was signed by Sony Music (not Sony Entertainment), and under that label, she released her debut single titled “Something to Prove.” After a brief hiatus, she re-emerged in 2016, with her debut EP titled H.E.R. Volume 1. The project garnered attention with the support of major artists like Rihanna, Usher, and Pusha T, helping her gain widespread recognition. Following the release of several back-to-back EPs, she compiled them into a full-length self-titled compilation album, H.E.R., released in late 2017. The album received five Grammy Award nominations, including Best New Artist and Album of the Year.
