Desmond Doss was an American corporal who served the ‘US Army’ during the ‘Second World War.’ He was a combat medical assistance soldier (combat medic) who saved the lives of many American soldiers during the war. He saved 75 soldiers in the ‘Battle of Okinawa’ for which he was awarded the ‘Medal of Honor,’ the highest US military gallantry award. Being a devout Seventh-day Adventist Christian, Doss refused to carry weapons to the battlefield and initially faced a lot of criticism at the hands of his colleagues and superiors in the Army. But his selfless dedication to his work earned him the respect of his colleagues and superiors and was awarded many medals for his service in the ‘Second World War.’ A Hollywood movie titled ‘Hacksaw Ridge,’ which was directed by Mel Gibson, was made on his heroic deeds in the ‘Battle of Okinawa.’
