Description:
(Zimbabwean Political Leader & Founder of a Militant Organization Called Zimbabwe African National Union) Ndabaningi Sithole gained prominence in Zimbabwean politics for establishing the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) in 1963. He served as a minister for the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) and was instrumental in challenging the government of Rhodesia. Sithole's leadership of ZANU resulted in his imprisonment for a decade following the ban on the organization. A tribal conflict within ZANU in 1975 and his defeat to Robert Mugabe in the 1980 elections were key milestones in his career.
