(Zimbabwean Revolutionary and Matabeleland Politician) Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo was a prominent Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who founded and led the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU). He played a key role in the country's struggle for independence and served as Vice-President of Zimbabwe from 1990 until his death. Nkomo was a leading trade union leader who was jailed for his activism against Rhodesia's white minority government. He was instrumental in the fall of the Rhodesian government and later signed the Unity Accord to merge ZAPU with ZANU to prevent further violence.
