Lucy Sichone

Lucy Banda-Sichone was a prominent Zambian civil rights activist and lawyer who dedicated her career to advocating for human rights issues in her country. She was the first Zambian woman to receive a Rhodes Scholarship and studied Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Oxford University. Sichone represented displaced villagers in court pro bono and founded the Zambia Civic Education Association to promote human and democratic rights. She was also involved in politics, joining UNIP and later becoming a critic of the government.
