Nguyen Van Thinh

Description: (1st President of the Autonomous Republic of Cochinchina)
Nguyễn Văn Thinh was a significant figure in Cochinchina's political scene, serving as its first President. A French citizen, he was actively engaged in politics, initially as a member of the Constitutionalist Party in 1926 and later founding the Cochinchinese Democratic Party in 1937. Thinh held key government positions, including chief of the provisional government and provisional president. His time in office was fraught with challenges, particularly during negotiations with the Viet Minh, where he often felt sidelined. Tragically, Thinh's presidency ended with his apparent suicide.
