Description: (Rebel Leader)
Phan Đình Phùng was a Vietnamese revolutionary and Confucian court scholar who played a key role in leading rebel armies against French colonial forces in Vietnam. Known for his integrity and firm stance against corruption, he rose through the ranks under Emperor Tự Đức. As the Imperial Censor, he took action against incompetent or corrupt mandarins. Phùng's opposition to the regent's activities resulted in his exile. He later organized rebel armies in support of the Cần Vương movement, aiming to drive the French out of Vietnam and reinstate independence under Emperor Hàm Nghi.
