Description:
(Lawyer) Raúl Sendic Antonaccio was a Uruguayan lawyer and trade unionist known for founding the National Liberation Movement – Tupamaros (MLN-T). Originally focused on organizing agricultural workers and advocating for land reform, he later led the MLN-T in urban guerrilla warfare against the Uruguayan state. Arrested during the civic-military dictatorship, Sendic was imprisoned but later released after the country transitioned to democracy. As the Tupamaros shifted towards legal and political activities, his career was tragically cut short by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
