Sinan

Mimar Sinan, also known as Koca Mi'mâr Sinân Âğâ, was the chief Ottoman architect, engineer, and mathematician for several sultans. He rose through the ranks from a military engineer to a Janissary commander, honing his skills in constructing fortifications and military infrastructure. Appointed as the chief royal architect at around fifty years old, he excelled in creating religious and civic structures, with masterpieces including the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne and the Suleiman Mosque in Istanbul. Sinan trained many successful assistants, leaving a lasting legacy in Ottoman architecture.
