Pope Gelasius I

Description: (Pope)
Pope Gelasius I served as the bishop of Rome from 1 March 492 until his death on 19 November 496. He was a prolific author known for his writing style that bridged Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Some scholars suggest that his predecessor may have used him to draft papal documents. During his pontificate, Gelasius emphasized strict Catholic orthodoxy, increased papal authority obedience, and heightened tensions between Western and Eastern Churches. Interestingly, he maintained friendly relations with the Arian Ostrogoths, despite their theological differences.
