Lord Pretender, also known as Aldric Farrell, was a celebrated calypsonian vocalist hailing from Tobago. He was particularly skilled in extempo, a type of improvised calypso music. His impressive career, which commenced when he was just 12 years old, lasted for almost seven decades until his retirement in the mid-1990s owing to laryngeal cancer. In 1957, he emerged victorious in the prestigious "Calypso King" competition. Lord Pretender's significant contributions to calypso were acknowledged by the Trinidad and Tobago government in 1972, and he was awarded the Hummingbird Medal in 1994.
