George Maxwell Richards

George Maxwell Richards, a Trinidadian politician and chemical engineer, was the fourth president of Trinidad and Tobago from 2003 to 2013. Before his presidency, he served as the Principal of the St. Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad from 1984 to 1996. Richards worked in the oil industry with Shell Trinidad Ltd before moving into academia, joining the University of the West Indies in 1965. He was notable for being the first president of Trinidad and Tobago with Amerindian ancestry.
