George Chambers

George Chambers had a diverse and distinguished professional career in Trinidad and Tobago. He started as an accountant at Deloitte New Zealand before transitioning into politics as a member of the People's National Movement (PNM). Chambers held various roles within the PNM, including Assistant General Secretary and Minister of Finance on two separate occasions. He also served as Minister of Public Utilities, Housing, National Security, Education, Planning, Industry/Commerce, and Agriculture. Chambers became Prime Minister in 1981 after the sudden death of Eric Williams, leading the PNM to victory in the general elections. He resigned in 1986 following the party's significant electoral defeat.
