Abdulrahman Mohamed Babu was a prominent Zanzibar-born Marxist and pan-Africanist nationalist known for his significant role in the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution. He later became a minister under Julius Nyerere in Tanzania after Zanzibar merged with mainland Tanganyika. Babu was later imprisoned by Nyerere in 1972 but continued to be an outspoken critic of imperialism, authoritarianism, and various development models. Throughout his career, he advocated for social justice, anti-imperialism, and opposed oppressive systems.
