Callinicus of Heliopolis

Description: (Architect)
Callinicus of Heliopolis was a Byzantine architect and chemist credited with inventing Greek fire, a powerful naval weapon resembling a flamethrower. He shared his knowledge of liquid fire with the Byzantines during the time of Constantine IV. His exact formula for Greek fire was a closely guarded secret and remains unknown to this day. Possible ingredients in his formula included resin, asphalt, sulfur, naphtha, quicklime, and calcium phosphide. Callinicus' contributions revolutionized warfare and naval tactics in the Byzantine Empire.
