Ibn al-Ash'ath

Description: (Umayyad General Remembered for His Campaign against al-Hajjaj)
Ibn al-Ash'ath was a prominent Arab nobleman and military commander during the Umayyad Caliphate. He played a role in the Second Fitna and served as governor of Rayy. Appointed by al-Hajjaj as commander of the "Peacock Army" to subdue Zabulistan, he led a rebellion against al-Hajjaj due to overbearing behavior. The revolt gained support from discontented groups, leading to the Battle of Dayr al-Jamajim, where the rebels were defeated. The suppression of his revolt marked the end of the tribal nobility's power in Iraq under direct Umayyad control.
