Michel Aflaq

Michel Aflaq, a Syrian philosopher and sociologist, was a prominent figure in the development of Ba'athism. He co-founded the Arab Ba'ath Movement with Salah al-Din al-Bitar in 1940, which later transformed into the Arab Ba'ath Party. Aflaq was instrumental in advocating for Arab unity, promoting socialism with Arab characteristics, and supporting secularization within the party. He served as the Secretary General of the Iraqi-led Ba'ath Party from 1968 until his passing in 1989.
