Hawa Abdallah Mohammed Salih is a Sudanese activist known for her work in raising awareness about the conditions in internally displaced persons camps. She collaborated with United Nations officials and an American NGO to spread information. Despite facing arrests and kidnappings by National Security forces in Sudan, she continued her advocacy work. Recognized for her courage, she received the International Women of Courage award in 2012. She eventually sought asylum in the United States, where she was represented pro bono by Mary Gay Scanlon, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
