Description: (4th President of Sudan)
Jaafar Nimeiry was a Sudanese military officer and politician who served as the fourth head of state of Sudan from 1969 to 1985. He rose to power through a military coup, establishing a one-party state with socialist and Pan-Arabist policies. Nimeiry had close collaborations with leaders such as Gamal Abdel Nasser and Muammar Gaddafi. Throughout his tenure, he navigated various challenges including surviving a coup attempt, forging alliances with China and the United States, and signing the Addis Ababa Agreement to resolve the First Sudanese Civil War. He was eventually overthrown in 1985, went into exile, returned in 1999, and made an unsuccessful presidential bid in 2000.
