Hassan Al-Turabi was a Sudanese politician who served as the Attorney General of Sudan from 1978 to 1982. He then served as the Foreign Minister in 1989. Hassan Al-Turabi also served as the Speaker of the National Assembly from 1996 to 1999. He is credited with organizing the 1989 Sudanese coup d'état that brought Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir to power.
