Deshamanya Chitrasena, a celebrated Sri Lankan dancer, is known for pioneering a modern era of dance in Sri Lanka and elevating traditional dance styles on a global scale. He established the Chithrasena Dance Company in 1943 and furthered his dance education in India. Chitrasena's exceptional skill and unwavering commitment earned him opportunities to perform for esteemed audiences such as royalty and world leaders. In acknowledgment of his significant contributions to the art of dance, he was honored with the prestigious Deshamanya award by the Sri Lankan government in 1998.
