Chamari Athapaththu is a well-known Sri Lankan cricketer who has showcased excellent leadership skills as the captain of Sri Lanka's women's Twenty20 International team. She has made remarkable contributions to the sport and was honored as the Women's Cricketer of the Year for the 2016–17 season by Sri Lanka Cricket. Chamari also created history by becoming the first Sri Lankan woman to participate in franchise cricket. Her accomplishments have gained international recognition, with a seating zone at the Sydney Cricket Ground dedicated to her and named as the Chamari Bay.
