Dingiri Banda Wijetunga was the fourth President of Sri Lanka from 1993 to 1994, following his tenure as Prime Minister from 1989 to 1993. Before his national roles, he served as the Governor of the North Western province in Sri Lanka. He received Sri Lanka's highest civilian award, Sri Lankabhimanya, in 1993 for his contributions. Wijetunga was known for his commitment to public service and leadership in the Sri Lankan government.
