Duṭṭhagāmaṇī the Great was a king of the Anuradhapura Kingdom who reigned from 161 BC to 137 BC. He is celebrated for uniting the island of Sri Lanka by defeating and dethroning Elara, a Tamil trader from the Chola Kingdom. Duṭṭhagāmaṇī enhanced and adorned the city of Anuradhapura and extended the influence of the Rajarata kingdom throughout Sri Lanka.
