Arjuna Ranatunga, a former Sri Lankan cricketer, captained the national team to victory in the 1996 Cricket World Cup. Following his retirement from cricket, he entered politics and held various positions within the Sri Lanka Cricket administration. He also served as a cabinet Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation. Ranatunga has been active in politics since 2005, being associated with different political parties and serving in parliament. He is renowned for his efforts in developing young cricket players and was recently appointed as the interim head of Sri Lanka Cricket.
