Description:
(Spanish Bullfighter) Rafael Gómez Ortega, also known as El Gallo, was a renowned early twentieth-century bullfighter known for his unique fighting techniques, including the espantada and fighting bulls from a chair. While he occasionally displayed bravery in the arena, his fights were often marked by moments of fear towards the bulls. Despite retiring in 1936 after being brought out of retirement seven times due to his entertaining style, Ortega faced financial struggles. He received support from Juan Belmonte during this challenging period. Ortega was briefly married to flamenco dancer Pastora Imperio before his passing in 1960.
