She made her debut in Bratislava in 1968 before achieving success at the Vienna State Opera. Gruberová gained international recognition for her performances in iconic roles such as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos. She also demonstrated her versatility by taking on heavier Italian bel canto roles in works by Donizetti and Bellini. Throughout her illustrious 51-year career, she was honored with titles such as "Slowakische Nachtigall" and prima donna assoluta.
