Foday Sankoh was a Sierra Leonean rebel leader who founded and led the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebel group during the 11-year-long Sierra Leone Civil War. Supported by Charles Taylor's NPFL, Sankoh's leadership of the RUF was marked by a conflict that caused an estimated 50,000 deaths and displaced over 500,000 individuals to neighboring countries.
