Gratian became emperor of the Western Roman Empire in 367. He ruled alongside his uncle Valens in the East and shared power with his infant half-brother Valentinian II. Gratian led military campaigns and introduced religious reforms favoring Nicene Christianity. He was known for his decisive actions and even renamed a city after himself. However, his reign faced challenges, such as the rebellion of Magnus Maximus, which ultimately led to his downfall and assassination in 383.
