ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās, a cousin of Prophet Muhammad, was a prominent figure known for his expertise in interpreting the Qur'an. He supported Ali during the early caliphate struggles and served as governor of Basra before later residing in Mecca, Hejaz, and Damascus. Ibn Abbas was recognized for his knowledge of traditions and critical analysis of the Qur'an. He diligently gathered information from other companions of Muhammad, conducted classes, and authored commentaries, establishing himself as the greatest mufassir of the Qur'an.
