Rutilio Grande

Rutilio Grande García, SJ, was a Jesuit priest in El Salvador who was known for his social justice advocacy and dedication to serving the marginalized communities. He was a close friend of Archbishop Óscar Romero and played a key role in raising awareness about the injustices faced by the poor and oppressed. Grande's assassination in 1977, along with two other Salvadorans, sparked outrage and led to Archbishop Romero speaking out against the violence. His martyrdom and commitment to social justice were recognized through his beatification by Pope Francis in 2020.
