María Teresa Rivera is a dedicated woman human rights defender from El Salvador who has been actively advocating for abortion rights in a challenging legal environment. Despite facing a harsh 40-year prison sentence for aggravated homicide due to a miscarriage, she persevered and was eventually released after serving a portion of her term. Currently residing in Sweden under asylum, Rivera continues her advocacy work for Sexual Reproductive Rights (SRR Rights) in El Salvador, collaborating with organizations like Amnesty Sweden to bring about positive change in her home country.
