Salarrue

Salarrué was a prominent Salvadorian writer, poet, and painter. He trained as a painter at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and later worked as an editor for the newspaper Patria in the late 1920s. His most popular works include the collections of short stories titled Cuentos de Cipotes and Cuentos de Barro, which depict an idealized version of rural life in El Salvador. Salarrué's unique use of language and style in Cuentos de Barro skillfully referenced a historical event without drawing unwanted attention. Additionally, he contributed to his country by serving in diplomatic roles in the United States.
