Corneliu Zelea Codreanu was a far-right Romanian politician and founder of the ultranationalist and violently antisemitic Iron Guard. Codreanu co-founded the National-Christian Defense League, incited pogroms, and carried out political assassinations. His party's strong showing in the 1937 election was blocked by King Carol II, leading to Codreanu's imprisonment and eventual assassination, leaving a lasting influence on modern far-right movements.
