(Canoeist & Coach) Ivan Patzaichin was a highly successful Romanian canoe racing coach and sprint canoeist. He participated in major competitions from 1968 to 1984, including five consecutive Olympics, and earned a remarkable seven Olympic and 22 world championship medals, with four Olympic gold medals. Transitioning into coaching, he attended five more Olympics in that role. Patzaichin's outstanding contributions to the sport were recognized with prestigious awards such as the Olympic Order, and he was also honored in a nationwide poll as one of the 100 Greatest Romanians of all time.
